Uganda 2026 Day 7

This morning we went back to the clinic area to hand out food. The Karamoja region is going through a bad drought and famine this year, so we decided to used our extra money on mostly food and only a few nets. We started by pulling all the food out so we get it easier than in the room. It was a good assembly line that was going. We line all the bags with beans on one side and cassava flour on the other. I walked down to the gate to check on things and ended up being the one who escorted each group to the food distribution area. David would help them line up and once 30 people were in. I took them. After receiving their food they went to another area to wait until they all had their bags. JoAnne then spoke to them really quick so we could head out. I asked John Bosco where Mama was and he had someone take me to her. She pulled me to the side and I yelled for the other John Bosco to come and interpret for me. She gave me a bracelet and completed my Karamojung name. I am now Nakiru (rain/a blessing) Joyce. The bracelet shows I am part of the tribe and family. I also gave her a couple snacks and jewelry gift I brought. We talked for a couple minutes and then I realized people were in the coster, so I told her I had to leave. We gave so many hugs and then left each other. It was very sad. As I got to the bus, I heard a commotion and Christine was manifesting again. We prayed for her, read the Bible over her and sang worship around her. Not the whole group, but about half of us. We did this for some time before having pastor Lenos take over. 

From here we drove 2-3 hours to our hotel in Moroto. We had some time to relax. There is a yearly cultural event that happens and it was in Moroto this year. John Bosco suggested we attend. At three, part of our team left and went shopping at the event. This is when I finally was able to meet Peace and Patience… and their friend. I had Peace pick out jewelry for me. She did good! We did not have long to stay, but we were able to find what we wanted… minus rings for Ana. We went back to the hotel, picked up the rest of the team and

Drove back to the event. We walked around and saw many groups dancing. Some have a band of bells in their legs. Some have a whistle. The rest just dance. We walked around to where a group of people were dancing and Tata pulled Katie out to dance. I, along with a few others also joined. It was very fun, but very dusty. From there we walked to an area with a canopy and sat in the shade. Some of us went in smaller groups to walk around. Some bought stuff and some just walked and looked. When we got back to the area we had danced in, they were still going. Richard grabbed my hand and we did a short dance, but the dust was too much, so he decided to get out. We were there for a couple hours before going back to the hotel for dinner. Anna and I were the only people (other than the married couples) who had a roommate. This gave a room to a couple Ugandans to share.
