Uganda 2024 Day 1
The morning of my flight to Uganda dad and I made a couple stops before the airport. We went to the 6am prayer time at church and went to visit my brother, Ben, and his family. I was happy that dad approved of this stop as it meant he would be gone all day. Before I left Clara requested that I FaceTime her and send pictures. I told her I could send pictures, but because of the time difference I did not know about FaceTiming. Although, I would try to FaceTime her. The flight was not until 6:30pm. Sadly the airport had a cybersecurity attack a few days before and every thing took a long time. They even had to hand wrote boarding passes. This meant we would arrive at the airport at 1pm to make sure we were checked in and through security on time. In line to check in I was able to talk to Jen Grace for a while. Then played a round of team cribbage where Tony and I were a team and Connor and Abby were a team. I was struggling in the game and thought they were going to win, but I had the crib and made 7 points with it when I needed 5 points. They would have won the next round if not for that. Going through the security line Ruthie dropped her water bottle which was full and spilled half of it. The security guy that cleaned it up sang a song while he did and changed the words to make it about not taking water through. He has an amazing voice and received applause and cheers for his singing. It was so funny. From there Spencer, Connor, Abby, Ruthie and I got food before heading to the gate. One of the team members happened to come in the same tram car as us when we were going to the gate. He told us he lost his passport and could not find it. He has just gone to security because he last remembered seeing it in the tote you put your stuff in to be xrayed. They had not seen it and said they would call him if they found it. Back at the gate, he looked through his bags as did the other team member who was in line with him and they had no luck. He ended up going back to security. I texted my family asking for prayer and I was also praying. When he came back they had found it! It was still in one of the tubs and just had not been cycled through usage before. That was a big answer to prayers. After many hours of anticipation, we finally boarded our plane. The flight was long as usual, but the middle seat was empty. I was able to lean my chair back and curl my legs into half the middle seat and sleep a little. This was also a blessing as I don’t sleep often or well on the plane.
