Uganda 2025 Day 8

Uganda 2025 Day 8

Today I woke up early to see if I would be riding on the bus back to Kampala. Martin had not answered my text during the night, so I woke up early to check on his decision. He was not awake, but Sarah and a couple of the guys were in the dining hall. She said I could take her seat because she had to leave later on the van with some cooking supplies. I thanked her, but still needed permission. Then I texted John Basco because he was not there yet. I told him sarah gave me her spot on the van. He told me he did not want me to ride on the van, but wanted me to fly. He was worried about the van breaking down while I was on it. I told him that would just make it a more fun adventure. He then came down and told me the same, but that I could ride in the van with him and Martin. I said that was fine, but I still needed to approve it. I went to Tony and JoAnne’s room to  update them on the plan and we talked for awhile. As I did not want to distract them for to long, I went back to my room for another hour and actually fell asleep for about half an hour before heading back to the dining hall. Half the team was to meet there early in the morning for breakfast and then to take a flight back to Kampala. The other half of the team was able to sleep in. I rode with the team to the airport. While we waited for the plane, Doctor David cut two of his fingers on his razor while digging in his bag. They bleed through multiple tissues and tp. Sydney (not a doctor) had a first aid kit in her bag, so she grabbed it and fixed up Dr David’s fingers. He kept saying she only had to do one, but of course she did both. It was a comical scene to me because she is not a doctor and she was fixing up a doctor. Once they all loaded on the plane, Martin, Sam (safari driver) and I went back to the hotel. I went to Chelsea’s room to make sure she had breakfast. She did not and was just leaving the room, so we stopped at my room to get my bag and went down to breakfast. The food was all gone, but Sarah was just starting to make sandwiches for the team for lunch. Chelsea and I had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for breakfast. We sat around the table talking and then some of us played “the Bible is funny.” Until it was time to go. Most of us were able to load into the vans, except some Ugandans, and we drove to the airport for the second team flying out. While we were making sure everyone was settled, the rest of the group arrived. They took boda bodas from the hotel to the airport. We said our goodbyes and I got in Martin’s van. In my van were Martin (obviously), Sarah, Paul, David, John Basco (1) and John Basco (2). I had to convince John Basco (2) to ride with us since he was not in my vehicle last year.

During the drive I brought out my Bose speaker. Sadly it was not fully charged and I had packed my charger in the bus along with my headphones. We listened to my worship music most of the time and then David connected his phone and we listened to his until the speaker died around soroti. That is where we stopped for lunch. It is the same restaurant we stopped at last year. I could have ordered food, but mama JoAnne said she did not want me eating food at our lunch stop, so I obeyed. I actually was not hungry due to the late lunch anyway. I think I ate my snacks about an hour and a half later. As the ride was going to be long, I made some friendship bracelets and showed David how to, watched the views, journaled a very little because my phone was almost dead, and of course talked to the guys. I also took photos of both John Bascos while they were sleeping. Our last bathroom break/fuel stop was in Jinja. Sarah purchased a bag of chips for the boys and I to share. The bag said they are American flavored BBQ chips. As we neared Kampala, we did run into traffic. I did not think it was to bad because I was not driving and I was enjoying watching everything. We dropped Sarah off close to her home and arrived at the guest house around 9p (we left the airport around 11:30a).
